font pack for Adobe Reader 8.0 no longer needed
i was wrong.
actually Adobe Reader 8 still need the font pack to display Chinese correctly. although it can display some Chinese without the font pack.
i had the experience to deploy Adobe Reader 7.0 in the company before, at that time, i have to unpack the exe installer then modify the msi installer to include a customized Simplified Chinese font into the msi package so that the English version of Adobe Reader 7.0 could display bouth English and Chinese after deploy to client computers. there both European people and Chinese people work in the plant and many costomer's documents are written in these two language. i have to deply English version of Adobe Reader because the European workers do not understand Chinese.
As what i did before so i searched the internet to find a Asia font pack for Adobe Reader 8.0 but its not available. finally I tried to open some testing Chinese and Japanese documents in pdf format without install any font, what surprise me is that it can display pdf documents written in any language correctly without install any font. i guess Adobe has changed their idea to use the windows system font instead of using their own font.
step to deploy Adobe Reader 8 is become simpler, i simply use the command: AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe /a to install the msi deployable package to a shared folder then added it to a group policy in the Active Directory without modify anything.
